What makes a rug a designer rug

A designer rug starts as a drawing, not a stock code. The scale of the pattern is set against real room dimensions, the palette is mixed to sit with British daylight, and the pile height is chosen for the way the design should catch shadow. Nothing is licensed in, and nothing is bought from a wholesale book.

Luxury designer rugs without the showroom markup

Most luxury designer rugs carry the cost of a Chelsea showroom, a wholesale margin and a retail margin on top. We sell direct from the studio and weave each rug after you order, so the price reflects the wool and the weaver – not the rent.

Pricing is flat by size: £99 for 120 × 170 cm up to £750 for 250 × 350 cm, whichever design you choose. A comparable hand-woven designer rug from a traditional rug house usually starts in the low thousands.

Choosing the right size

The most common mistake with a designer rug is buying it too small – the pattern loses its scale and the room reads unfinished. As a rule, the front legs of every seat should land on the rug, and a bedroom rug should extend at least 60 cm beyond the sides of the bed.
